Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Then, in 1992 she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. She covered many notable stories such as weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
